![]() Autumn Games (Skullgirls publisher) have made a statement that they will no longer be working with Lab Zero or Mike Z on any future project and that the continuation of the Skullgirls IP will be done by the Skullgirls Mobile developer Hidden Variable. And it seems that supporting the game is something many ex-members of the studio still stand by as Mike Z doesnt own the IP and the game was still a group effort. Kai Kennedy, the voice of Beowulf and long time commentator and supporter of Skullgirls gave a very heartbroken speech about supporting the community and not letting the actions of the present taint your memories of the past. Skullgirls champion and recently added NPC SonicFox also had a lot to say on the matter, feeling betrayed by Mike Z’s actions and offering a helping hand to any developer who is transitioning to a new job during these turbulent times. Fans and major parts of the community have also spoken up against Mike Z including Carbon Bae, a long time Skullgirls fan and cosplayer who claims that at the most recent CEOtaku, Mike Z “commented about wanting to make a collage of my selfies so he could get off to them” while standing next to her boyfriend. ![]() Other members of the team have also announced their departure including Robert Thomas, Chris Matthews and Jonathan Kim. The second major walkout out was Mariel Cartwright, lead animator at Lab Zero, who claims that between Mike racist “I cant breath” jokes, his inappropriate DMs, and unwanted sexual comments towards her, that she can no longer be part of the company. He originally agreed to leave, but is unwilling to make a reasonable compromise, so I’m taking my exit now. He is the sole owner of Lab Zero Games, and removing him is difficult. Mike Z creates an unsafe work environment for everyone. He’s also been known to make extremely inappropriate comments around other female employees. Mike has been accused of abusing his power repeatedly, holding up the development of an entire game to focus on a small feature he wanted and threatening to fire people as a joke. According to EU03, Mike didnt take kindly to this and used his position at the company to fire the board after giving the board an “unreasonably high and possibly even illegal” payout request. After Mike interactions with a fan on twitter came to light earlier this year, he was barred from comentating or participating at Combo Breaker (the biggest Skullgirls Tournament) for 2 years.įollowing that the Lab Zero board of the directors asked Mike Z to resign. The first of the walkouts came from EU03, an animators at Lab Zero whose claims that the company’s owner Mike Zaimont’s actions have made it clear that Lab Zero is no longer a safe place to work. This is coming just 2 weeks after the reveal of the long await Annie DLC which would have been shown off at the games EVO debut. Over the past few days, there have been massive walkout from developers and animators at Lab Zero, the studio behind Skullgirls and Indivisible.
